During my Human Communication class, we were ask to make a persuasive presentation on a topic we felt passionate about. We needed to persuade our audience to take action, by providing details about our topic. We had 5-7 minutes to persuade the class of why our topic was important by providing supporting details, and rebutting the other side of the argument.

For my topic, I chose to speak about the importance of teenagers and students having part time jobs. I feel passionately about this topic and believe it is so important for teens to experience time in a professional industry before going into the real working world after college. While having your first job when you are young, you learn a lot of skills that help prepare you for the future. Teenagers will learn how to respect adults, work under a person of authority, learn how to handle money, and important time management skills. There are many things that come from having a part time other than making a little spending money.

When I was in high school, and over college breaks I work at a hair salon named Posh the Salon. I work as a front desk and salon coordinator. I first got this job when I was 16, and I have loved working there ever since. I enjoy getting to work with a variety of clients and the experience I get in the salon atmosphere. I also work as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA. From having two jobs I made a lot of money to save up for college, made a lot of friends, and became a much more confident individual. I think its very important that parents encourage their teenagers to partake in part time jobs to help them prepare to be in a professional working world, and help them build their resume for after college.
